A whimsical Brooklyn children's store
Acorn, established in 2004 by Diane Crespo and Karin Schaefer, carries handcrafted toys that allow children to explore and expand their imaginations. With a focus on beautifully designed and crafted products from around the world, Acorn stocks wooden toys, Waldorf dolls, select furniture and mobiles, as well as unique clothing and artwork by New York designers and artists.
Acorn is committed to offering heirloom quality products that are crafted using environmentally sustainable practices and materials made by artisans who receive a living wage for their work. In an effort to support a healthy childhood for all children we donate a percentage of sales to both national and international schools and organizations that provide services for children.
Excellent local/boutique toy store. They really know what they sell and make an effort and it shows. Much better than other toy boutiques in the neighborhood that carry the same old same old. While I lament the loss of the good old neighborhood toy store, this place is a nice neo-incarnation of the best of the old toy stores in NYC I grew up with.
I dont have kids, but if I did, I would want to buy them about 70% of the things in this store. The store packs a lot of great toys into a small space, and presents it very well. Prices are about what you would expect for higher quality wooden toys, but the craftsmanship appears to be there.Just to clarify, I do not believe any of the toys are made by the proprietors, however they have excellent taste.
The hippest little toy shop in the world. Very friendly, knowledgeable staff and beautiful, high quality, hand made toys. Lots of imaginative and creative toys, some of which sparked memories of my own childhood, e.g. the awesome dinosaur toys! Thee place to go to foster a child's healthy imagination and creativity.
